MEET PAYTON

Payton is a post-bar law clerk at Heyer Gutierrez, LLP who comes from a family of educators. Originally from Sacramento, Payton was introduced to both public life and the value of a legal education at a young age. It was only by chance that she would later attend McGeorge School of Law, located across the street from her childhood home. Before going to law school, Payton taught high school math in San Francisco after completing her undergraduate studies at Dominican University of California in Marin County. She graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities & Cultural Studies, with Minors in Mathematics and Political Science. While at McGeorge, Payton devoted substantial study to the First Amendment in public schools and was a research assistant to constitutional law scholar, Leslie Gielow Jacobs. She graduated with distinction, completing concentrations in Tax, Business, and Elder & Health Law. Payton believes that, of all our institutions, schools are the most valuable; that, of all our professionals, educators are the most noble; and that, of all our people, children are the most important. Payton lives with her doggie-daughter Lila in the Curtis Park neighborhood that she grew up in. When out of the office, she likes to surf, hike, and camp along the North Coast, tend to her garden at home, and spend time with her family and friends.
